It’s been said repeatedly that you can’t have a healthy lifestyle without balance. Health and lifestyle actually go hand to hand. With the current working pace and the way we run our lives today each thing we do has a great impact on our health and overall well-being. Actually, many governments and non-governmental organizations have made big efforts in healthy lifestyle and health promotion. The United States has statistics where every two out of three people has an issue with obesity. This number has a capacity to increase as the lives of people get more sedentary. The weight is not really the reason for their problem; it is actually the unregulated distribution of energy. When you binge, you take in so much food that is not consumed into energy.

The accumulation of calories results to fat cells stored in the body. Fat lessens the activeness of a person and brings down the metabolism. Therefore, obese people are more at risk for many diseases. Some examples include heart disease, diabetes, asthma, gallbladder issues, kidney problems, and certain types of cancer. When you choose to fight obesity, you’re also choosing to fight against a number of diseases.

Changing Your Habits for a More Active Lifestyle

As mentioned before, lack of activity is one of the many problems that people face in America that is directly affected by one’s health and lifestyle. We know it is good for us but tend to avoid it like the plague either because we are used to being sedentary or afraid that exercise has to be vigorous for it to be worth our time. The truth is, at the end of the day, any activity is movement and the more you do, the healthier you will be. Even moderate activities such as gardening, playing with your kids, chores, and walking can make a difference.

Making a physical activity a part of your daily life is an important way to help control your weight and lower your risk of health problems. Spend less time in activities that use little energy like watching television and playing video games and more time in physical activities. Try to do at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day on most days of the week. The activity doesn’t have to be done all at once. It can be done in short spurts of 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there, as long as it adds up to 30 minutes a day. Easy ways to become more physically active include walking or taking the stairs instead of the elevator can improve one’s health and lifestyle.

The Modern Dilemma

If you really look into it, many of our parents and grandparents had a healthy lifestyle. In addition, they had this healthy life without having to go to the gym or having to participate in formalized exercise programs. Our ancestors were able to accomplish this because they walked a lot more than we do today and they didn’t have the many household labor saving gadgets that we now have. Exercise is necessary these days because household labor saving devices have reduced or eliminated manual effort. By improving one’s health and lifestyle, one can truly prolong a healthy life and not continuously suffer from various ailments.
